While the chief intention of Diane Kendal at Proenza Schouler’s fall/winter 2017 show was to create a unique beauty look, the makeup artist also achieved revived-looking eyes thanks to a stroke of white liner blended at their inner and outer edges. “It opens up the eye,” Kendal explained of the style, which was worn by five models in the show. (Makeup was otherwise minimal — and hair was center-parted to play up each model’s own natural texture.) The white eyeliner, though meant to bring a dose of sci-fi-like individuality to the runway lineup, demonstrated an undeniably revitalizing effect that works with many skin complexions.

Using MAC Chromagraphic pencil in pure white, Kendal rimmed the inner corner of the eyes, both on top and on bottom, as well as their outer edges, then blending out the line with her finger to soften the impact. The result: a subtle optical illusion that widens the eyes and brightens up their whites. For those who are weary of overdoing it, dabbing a touch of highlighter at the inner corner of the eyes has a similar effect.
